NOT FOR USE ON SIG 556R / 7.62X39

Due to the added recoil for the 7.62X39 round we do not recommend thr MAD REAR FLIP UP SIGHT as the rear flip up part can at times drop down (to the stored position) under the added recoil of the .30 caliber round. We have had customers with 556Rs buy these and modify them slightly by deepening the channel that the detent sits in and or replacing the spring with a stronger one.

This issue is ONLY with the MAD Rear sight. ALL FRONT SIGHTS are 100% OK to use with any caliber.

Fits All SIG 556 & 522 Style Rifles & Pistols:

  • SIG 556 Standard Rifle
  • SIG 556 Patrol Rifle
  • SIG 556 SWAT Rifle
  • SIG 556 Pistol
  • SIG 556 Classic Rifle
  • SIG 522 Standard Rifle
  • SIG 522 Pistol
  • CDNN SIG 551A1 Rifle
  • West Coast Armory SIG 551 Rifle

Sight height when folded down is 0.525" from the top of the rail.

Instructions

The front sight's dove tail must slide somewhat freely in the dove tail of the gas block.

Meaning: You should NOT have to use a hammer to drift the sight side to side, but it should also NOT be so loose as to slide easily. The right amount of friction is so that the sight drifts sideways via a significant amount of force using your fingers... i.e. nearly all of your might using both hands(tightest) to as easy as half of your strength (loosest). The idea here is that the sight has enough friction in the dove tail not to move during firing.

Failure to do this WILL result in the stripping of the cross-over bolt or the shearing of the roll pin inside the donut / round nut.

Hand fitting is required as the dove tails in the gas blocks vary from production to production. Hand fitting can be done via a small hand file used on the slanted edges of the sight's dove tail.

How to install the roll pin in the front sight.

It is easy to mess up the roll pin when you first try to install it. Read below to avoid the pitfalls. Not all SIG 556 series weapons come with a front sight installed. So issues like this arise most often when the user is NOT first removing a similar front sight from the weapon and thus is completely unfamiliar with the requirements.

There is a first time for everything and that is a part of any weapons system.

When SIG installs these at the factory they have a special fixture or a second person to hold the weapon. While a fixture or third person is NOT required it sure makes it a lot easier. All you need is someone to hold the weapon while you hold the punch and hammer.

Be sure that the hole in the donut and spline are clean / free of metal shavings.

The most common mistake that leads to messing up a roll pin is not having the hole in the spline / adjustment bolt and the hole in the round / donut wheel lined up. You will have to use a punch or something to be absolutely sure of the alignment. Use a 1/16” punch or 1/16” drill bit or 1.5mm allen key… or look around the house and shop for something that fits through both.

The number of turns to get the holes lined up is between 2.5 and 3 full rotations (you have to look down the hole). The windage bolt should NOT go past the point of being flush with the outside edge of the donut.

It is a lot easier to file or grind down the roll pin at one end and then gently collapse the same end with a vice grips of pliers so that it just fits / sits in the hole of the donut. This will free up one hand. This is almost a requirement.

Lube the hell out of the roll pin and hole of the donut and spline.

Always start with your 1/16” punch (or whatever) 3/4 the way through to assure alignment. As you drive the roll pin in the punch will move out the opposite side.

Good luck...

These roll pins are specially made for us so, if you mess up the roll pin you can buy a spare from us on this page:

Really a good deal... super value, fantastic quality... I gave only 4 stars as the rear does not have any elevation adjustment... no big deal as point of impact is set for 100 yards... as discribed... just wish it had it...

Best

These are so much better than the chinese crap that SigSauer offers for much more money. I put a set on my 556 Classic and liked them so much I put a set on my 522 also. These are not as fancy as the "Troy Battle Sights", but they are usable. I prefer the front with the fiber optic insert. Overall a really great deal.

Comments:
The Sig 55x rifles are a great product with one true flaw (IMO) -- the iron sights. The MFI sights come at a great price for any iron sights, yet also have the quality all Sig components should have. The delivery was incredibly fast. If you want to maintain the low profile of your Sig 55x rifle(and, more importantly, the resulting cheek weld), this is your product. I also wish there was elevation adjustment, but agree with MFI that it would add greatly to the cost. I chose the correct profile and great price over AR sights and elevation.

Comments:
I recently purchased the MAD front and rear sight for my Sig 556R, after searching for days for low usable iron sights. I had no intention of going to an AR height type sight, and this was the very best option, especially for the price, I could find.

After receiving my sights, I immediately installed the front. When I installed the rear, I was unable to tighten it down as it was stripped.

BUMMER...

I emailed my issue through the contact form here, and received a response the same day from MFI's CEO saying:

"That should not happen... Let me send you a new rear MAD sight and a return label for the bad one."

That was a Friday night...I received the new rear sight, with a return prepaid envelop Monday.

The new rear sight mounted without issue.

I absolutely love this setup! Low profile, folding, gives me awesome cheek weld...I am VERY happy with not only the product, but the customer service as well.

If you have a Sig 556R and are desperately searching for USABLE iron sights, I highly recommend this set.

You won't regret it.

This product is very high quality.

Since it is being used on a Sig556R (7.62x39) that I intend to hog hunt with, I purchased the version with the fiber optic in the front sight post.

Be very VERY sure to follow the instructions. I did not follow the instructions the first time and thus managed to strip out the threads inside of the front sight.

When I purchased a replacement and followed the instructions completely and CORRECTLY, it worked PERFECTLY! (Imagine that!) Be sure to file the pin down AND gently crush the end to make a cone. This allows you to place the pin into the hole and align everything up.

Instead of using a hammer, I used a pair of vice grip pliers and slowly pressed the pin into the hole. Realigning the vice grips every couple of millimeters helped.

Also be sure to take your time and file down the dovetail on the sight enough to be able move the sight as described in the instructions.
