MFIAP - About Us
About MFI LLC
Family Owned & Operated since 1987. Minority Owned and Operated since 2002.
MFI HQ is strategically based right next to USMC Camp Pendleton in Fallbrook CA. This is our Corporate Headquarters and there is no sales office, inventory or showroom at this location. Meetings / visits are by appointment only. MFI operates as a semi Cottage Industry and relies on our dealers nationwide to provide the show and tell part of our business. For those not near a stocking dealer MFI offers a very generous 60 Day Money Back Return Policy.
We may appear to be a big company, but the fact is we are not. MFI consists of 2 people and 2 dogs.
- Michael Frost CEO & Founder (Husband & Total Gun Nut)
- Nanae Frost CFO & Majority Share Holder (Wife & Novice Shooter)
- Comet Frost (Son #1) Yellow Labrador / Therapy Companion / Security Supervisor & Food Inspector.
- Jet Frost (Son #2) Black Labrador / Head of MFI Security & Small Game Killer.
For the past 10 years MFI has focused solely on our own MFI branded products. We are 100% customer driven. We consider ourselves customers / users of our own products FIRST and manufacturers / suppliers second. Our standard operating procedure goes something like this:
A new idea for a product comes to us either via a customer or just out of the blue.
Market Viability Study: We ask some of our loyal customer (who are a vital part of our R&D) as they own and operate the type of weapons system that the product is being made to fit. You too may someday be part of this team, just ask to be placed on the R&D list. If the feedback is good… meaning the majority of the customer’s state that they too would like to have one of these items, then we proceed to the next step.
Design and Cost Analysis: Obviously we can make anything for lots of money, but then no one could afford to buy it. So we have to be sure that the product can be designed, developed and manufactured cost effectively in order to be sellable. MFI is NOT a super low volume boutique manufacturer. If we do not think that we can manufacture and sell 500 a minimum of units in a year’s time, then likely the product will NOT be made.
If the product is unique enough to be patented it happens at this stage.
Prototypes: We always have to make 5-10 prototypes to test in house and send to our 1st tier R&D customers to get their response. Generally the item will undergo 2-3 different minor changes to make it more useful, cost effective to manufacture or just cooler looking (which makes it more sellable).
The Test Phase is generally 3-4 weeks long and involves a minimum of 1000 rounds being fired with the item attached to the intended weapon, before we move on to the next phase.
Manufacturing: We have partnerships and or long term contracts with a number of Small Machine Shops Nationwide who do part of the manufacturing process for us. This “Cottage Industry” not only allows us to have lower over head, but it also Keeps America Working. All our products are “MADE IN THE USA”. All our products are inspected and packaged by either myself or my wife (the dogs do not seem to show much interest unless meat is involved) before they are shipped. By staying small we retain control of the quality and price.
Once the item has been made and is in our inventory we add it to our web site and send out free samples to valued R&D customers, select dealers, the press, select Law Enforcement & Military.
The entire process from Concept to First Sale generally takes 8 to 12 months minimum. Longer for brand new ideas and shorter for simply variations of items we already produce. Total development cost ranges from $4000.00 to $200,000.00. So there is serious risk involved with any product.
We are a small company trying make a good living while having fun at the same time. We are NOT looking to become Millionaires. We are driven by Passion for Firearms and the love of all shooting sports. Basically we want to provide the highest quality product that we can at an affordable price. Our only hope is that we do not come out with more failures than successes.
MFI specializes in lesser known markets / weapons platforms that the more aggressive companies ignore. We try to make products that Universally fit as many weapons systems as possible. The more we can sell the lower the cost to manufacture, which in turn means cheaper retail price.
We have to first have a serious passion and understanding of a weapons platform in order to provide the end user with something useful. So we tend not to make items for hunting guns, unless what you are hunting is another human being. We make no apologies for being focused on Self-Defense, LE and Military weapons platforms. Providing Law Enforcement, Military (Domestic & Our Allies) as well as the general US citizen the ability to defend themselves better and more cost effectively is exactly what we are proud to do.
MFI is “Proud to be on the Front Line on the War on Terror.” Our products can be found on weapons systems of 11 different nations in all theaters of conflict in the “War Against Terrorism”.
MFI offers discounts to Military and Law Enforcement who are buying for their personal use regardless of their status of being Active, Reserve or Retired Veteran. Most often these are discounts that are made up off the top of my head and usually based on available inventory.
Customer Service: As previously mentioned we try to look at everything we do from the customer’s point of view. We are consumers of all items that we manufacture and many other items which we do not make. To me personally the number one rule is: “Answer the damn phone!”. This also goes for responding in a timely manner to all emails. For this reason I (Michael Frost) am the only one who will be answering the phone when you call. You will NOT have to ask for someone who is in charge of Sales or who can answer a few questions… I am that guy. I can tell you everything there is to know about the making, using and selling or any item that we manufacture. This exactly how any company should be.
Hours of Operation: As I live, eat and breathe guns… If I can hear the phone ring I will answer it. We have listed hours that you can call on our “Contact Us” page from Monday through Friday, but know that on weekends and off hours I am often in the shop tinkering or in the office working on some idea that just will not let me sleep… If I do not answer then likely I am sound asleep or having a romantic dinner with my wife… just leave a message and we WILL get back to you.
Order Fulfillment: Generally we get orders out the door the same business day (if ordered before Noon PST) or at least the next business day (including Saturday if being sent USPS). This is not because I am a workaholic (I am that in deed), but rather out of respect for the customer. In short it is what I would like to have happen if I was the one buying the product.
This is who we are… Not really any different from most of you… Just trying to make our own way in the world… Hoping we do onto others as they would do onto us.
