The MFI 5.5 inch long mounts are designed to be as close to Mil. Spec. as possible for the HK MP5 / HK 94, but those two are slightly different compared to the other weapons (G3 / HK91 / HK 93) in .223 and .308 not to mention all the other clone variations made worldwide.

It is absolutely critical to be sure to keep the 4 hooks / legs the same size. So if you remove any material from one hook you have to remove that same amount for the other 3 hooks.

Likewise when mounting the screws / bolts through the holes of the mount and into the legs / hooks you should NOT screw one hook all the way down and move to the next. You SHOULD screw each hook about 2-3 turns then move to the next hook. Try to keep the same amount of draw down on each. This will keep the mount flat and true to the receiver.

The hooks are meant to have a slight bit of pressure pushing them outward which allows them to be super tight to the receiver. Therefore it will cause the hooks to go a hair (ever so slightly) out of the absolute vertical when you look at the side of the hook in-between the two frame members that hold it in place via roll pin. Straight up and down is fine, but ideally you want to end up with the top of the hook (where the thread hole is)slanted just a hair inward towards the center of the mount / receiver. Perhaps 1/2 to 1 degree maximum. Any more than a degree is a clear sight that more material needs to be removed.

This same pressure keeps the bolts from backing out. Again we are talking about the thickness of a sheet of paper… So if you screw down one bolt at a time you are forcing all the available adjustment to be removed from the last hook / leg.

It is the same with any device that has 100% independent adjustment / tie down… i.e. mounts, scope rings, tires / wheels on a car, etc… if in the case of scope rings... if you screw down completely the right hand side you will clearly see that on the right side of a scope ring there is zero gap while the left side has a large gap… on scope rings the deflection is less significant, but in the case of a mount like this the right side will end up being lower than the left in essence causing the mount to tilt to one side and thus be off center. Likewise screwing down the front two legs all the way will make the mount slant forward and will likely not allow you to even start the rear screws. By alternating between the screws (like on a car wheel rim) you keep the balance and tension constant and evenly distributed. It is just more critical on smaller bolts and on products where the tolerance is very tight.

NOTE: Depending on the ability of the customer this can be a very time consuming and frustrating modification. This is why we ask (actually require) the buyer to tell us what specific weapon they are using this mount on. This way we can hand fit the mount prior to shipping.

Obviously we do this all the time, therefore it is far easier and faster for us than for someone who is unaccustomed to the work required or who may lack the required tools. This service is FREE of charge and regardless of where you bought your MFI Mount you can always send it in for be hand fitted FREE of charge. All we ask is for check for $7.50 to cover the return shipping.
